U16 girls ready for Japan challenge

September 13, 2017

Chonburi, September 13: The Bangladesh national U16 women’s team are prepared to restore some pride in the second match of the AFC U16 Women’s Championship 2017 against Japan on Thursday.

Bangladesh opened their campaign on a rather disappointing note with a 9-0 defeat to DPR Korea in the Group B opener on Monday.

Notably, Japan thrashed Australia 5-0 in their opening Group B game on the same day.

In the official presser at the venue on Wednesday, Bangladesh coach Golam Rabbani Choton was hopeful of getting a positive result out of the game.

“Tomorrow the team will try harder. The players need to keep their composure and play their natural. If everyone is at their best, we can manage to get a good result against Japan,” Choton said.

When asked about fitness, he said all the players have recovered, trained well and they are raring to get on the field again.

Skipper Krishna Rani Sarker was apologetic over the team’s performance on Monday.

“Last match, we made a lot of mistakes. Those cost us dearly. We will try to put up a good show this time around,” said Krishna.

The girls in red and green had an hour-long training session on Wednesday morning at the match venue.

They will face Japan in their second group game on Thursday at 4:00pm Bangladesh time.
