Anwarul Kabir Shamim, the first captain of Bangladesh National Cricket Team, passed away while undergoing treatment at a city hospital on Monday.

He breathed his last this morning at the age of 74 after suffering from the old age complications for a long time, according to his family members.

He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Shamim was the national cricket team skipper when Bangladesh stepped into the international cricket with the match against Marylebone Cricket Club in January, 1977.

Bangladesh Football Federation President Kazi Salahuddin, Vice-Presidents, Executive Committee members, General Secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag and all other committee members expressed deep shock at Shamim’s death. 

The BFF officials also prayed for his departed soul and conveyed their deepest condolence to his family members.
