U16 girls beat Myanmar 1-0, confirm AFC Championship final round

Mandalay: Bangladesh U16 women’s team ensured the AFC U16 Championship-2019 with their 1-0 win over Myanmar in the second qualifying round of the tournament on Friday.

The junior girls, led by Maria Manda, beat host Myanmar with the only goal from Monika Chakma and confirmed their ticket for the Asia’s best stage.

In the second qualifying round, Bangladesh started their journey with beating Philippines with a 10-0. And now the red-green girls beat host Myanmar on their own ground.

During the match, the host girls could not showcase themselves as great threat for Bangladesh. Rather, Monika Chakma placed the ball into the Myanmar goalpost at the 68th minute of the play.

The AFC U16 Women’s Championship is scheduled to be held in Thailand this September where the eight best teams in Asia will contest for the trophy.

Bangladesh will play their last qualifier match against China on March 3.
